British Columbia: understand Enhanced Care first
Use the official benefits context before interpreting a settlement number.
Start with the official system
ICBC introduced Enhanced Care on May 1, 2021. Its current information explains that lawsuits for compensation are no longer possible except in limited circumstances. A national lawsuit-payout formula is therefore a poor starting point for a BC auto event.
A cost total is still only a worksheet
Costs you enter can help organise questions about benefits, payments and future needs. They do not establish eligibility or the amount of an ICBC benefit. A non-auto event needs its own context; the Enhanced Care page does not decide every kind of injury claim.
Ask about unresolved steps
Which coverage and event date apply? What has already been paid? What is the relevant review or dispute process? Use ICBC’s current guidance and a qualified professional when you need advice. Verify a lawyer through the Law Society’s public resources.
